Through the microcredit and related training and services; VVHF invests in education, nutrition and other improvements. VVHF Promotes:
Clean Water ProjectsAccess to adequate water is a challenge and people are often required to travel great distances to get it. Well and drip irrigation systems would help bring water closer to the people in the village and provide a better opportunity for growing crops (see agricultural projects). Projects are in place to provide additional wells and irrigation but funds are needed to complete them. In addition, clean drinking water is hard to find in Haiti and is one of the main causes of preventable diseases.
Children Soccer ProgramOur philosophy is based on the idea that by focusing ones resources on the development of children, a foundation is built for the betterment of communities from the ground up. Within our program of creating opportunities for education and health, we are now incorporating fitness to this equation. We believe these three entities play an equal part to the well being of children. The fitness of our choice is soccer, our mission, to build soccer fields. Fully functional facilities with locker rooms and showers, equipment rooms with uniforms, cleats and naturally soccer balls. The inspiration for this endeavor was during one of our post-earthquake relief trips to Haiti, we came across countless amounts of children spending time in the streets; while numerous soccer fields were in horrific conditions, and more times than not, the fields were being used by cattle instead of children. The choice to then build soccer fields was an easy one; loved by children all over Haiti, it is the beautiful game. Apart from the psychical attributes of soccer, team sports pave an avenue for children to relieve stress, build camaraderie and leadership, and most of all, to have fun. Our objective is to provide communities a fitness curriculum at schools, for after school soccer leagues and summer soccer camps. A vision of children exercising their minds and souls for healthier lives. Vocational & Human Development CoursesAdults will have the opportunity to learn skills needed to work the land, learn a specific trade or work in a specific industry. Sessions will be provided on the importance of clean water to prevent disease, how to learn more about HIV/AIDS, positive self-image, etc. |
HAMA Program (Haitian Amputee Mothers Alliance)The HAITIAN AMPUTEE MOTHERS ALLIANCE (HAMA) project was founded to provide leading-edge prosthetic limbs to women & mothers who became amputees as a result of the January 12, 2010 earthquake. The primary mission for HAMA is to provide, each amputee who enters the program, the tools necessary to lead an active, productive and independent life. The Village of Vision Haiti Foundation will also work in conjunction with HAMA to tend to the holistic needs of each amputee and her children, providing: housing, meals, mental health, grief counseling, nutrition/health education and vocational training during the rehabilitation process. VVHF will also be providing job placement, arts and crafts outlets and micro-lending for local business development for each woman entering the program. The donations made to HAMA will directly fund the prosthetics portion of the project, not the overall living costs which are provided by donations to VVHF general fund. VVHF is a registered 501c3 & registered NGO, all donations to VVHF (HAMA project) are tax deductible. To view a copy of the full 16 page HAMA Proposal please click here.
Agricultural DevelopmentThe objective of the project is to diminish the effect of two major problems, which affect the lives of millions of Haitians: rising food and fuel costs (around 50% in the last year) while creating new sources of revenue and employment. Our first goal is to create food security by implementing an agribusiness pilot project. Our second goal is to reduce the burden of deforestation and of extremely expensive fuels in rural areas by providing an alternative renewable household energy source environmentally friendly, cheap and non -threatening to food security. As part of the self-sustaining model, agricultural projects are vital in providing the food and nutrition for the community. Haiti struggles with short rainy seasons and insufficient water sources. With improved irrigation and well systems (see clean water projects), bigger and more varied crops can be planted to feed and provide a means of income for the families in the community.
